Two Men Sentenced in Malaysia and Gambia for Armed Robberies

In Sarawak, Malaysia, a court sentenced two men to 12 years' imprisonment and six strokes of the cane after they pled guilty to an armed gang robbery at a 70‑year‑old man's home in Sadong Jaya. The attackers, armed with machetes, stole cash and personal items worth about RM3,650.

In The Gambia, the High Court handed down 20‑year prison terms to two men convicted of a 2021 knifepoint robbery of businessman Bakary Sabally in Tallinding. The assailants threatened the victim with a knife and a broken bottle, stealing two mobile phones and 15,000 dalasis.

Both cases underscore the courts' emphasis on deterrence for violent theft, with Malaysian judges also imposing corporal punishment and Gambian judges highlighting the seriousness of armed robbery.
