Regional emergencies: Drownings, fatal accidents, and major fires reported
A series of tragic incidents and emergencies have been reported across the region. In Bulgaria, two young professionals from the Republic of Moldova, Elena and Gheorghe, drowned in the Black Sea near Ahtopol after being swept away by currents on an unsupervised beach.
Romania has seen multiple fatal and serious accidents. A 17-year-old driver died after crashing into a pole in Slatina, while a 55-year-old motorcyclist is in critical condition following a collision in Topa Mică. In Drăgoieni, a prominent ORL physician, Dr. Liliana Bobic Predescu, lost her life in a car accident. Additionally, a vice-mayor in Stejari, Gorj, was involved in a collision where he reportedly attempted to hide the vehicle.
Environmental and public service issues were also noted, including a large forest fire covering 7 hectares in Ardud and a significant vegetation fire in Vaslui affecting 70 hectares. In Satu Mare, the emergency unit (UPU) reported a high volume of patients, treating 530 people over a three-day weekend.
