Manhattan subway: Two 24-year-olds killed on tracks

Two 24-year-olds, a man from Sayreville, New Jersey, and a woman from Dayton, New York, were killed early Sunday morning after being struck by a southbound No. 4 subway train in Lower Manhattan. The incident occurred near the Spring Street station shortly before 3:15 a.m.

Video footage circulating online appears to show the pair sitting on the tracks, facing the oncoming train, with no visible attempt to move as it approached. Investigators have stated there is currently no evidence to suggest the individuals were pushed or fell onto the tracks accidentally. Authorities are looking into the circumstances of how they arrived on the rails, including whether alcohol consumption played a role.

The NYPD closed the station following the collision to process the scene. This tragedy follows a series of recent fatal and violent incidents on the New York City transit system, including the death of an MTA worker at the Yankee Stadium station just over a week prior.
