A search for two missing crew members has been concluded after the French-registered fishing vessel Maranello sank in the English Channel. The incident occurred on Saturday, August 29, approximately 48 kilometers southwest of Plymouth, near the Eddystone Lighthouse.

The vessel, which is based in Saint-Brieuc, reportedly encountered issues with its fishing gear before sinking. A nearby trawler, the Stradale, managed to rescue three of the five crew members from the water. The rescued individuals were taken to hospitals in Plymouth and Truro for medical attention.

Despite an intensive multi-agency search operation involving HM Coastguard, RNLI lifeboats, helicopters, and fixed-wing aircraft, as well as assistance from the French Navy, no trace of the remaining two crew members was found. Authorities have suspended the search based on the known limits of human survivability in current water temperatures.
