Two separate accidents in Ehime Prefecture disrupt train service and cause a fatal road collision
A light truck stalled at a level crossing in Yawatahama City, Ehime Prefecture, was struck by a limited‑express train on the Yosan Line on the evening of June 17. No injuries were reported among the 16 passengers and crew, but the collision disrupted the day's schedule, cancelling or delaying 19 train services and affecting about 630 travelers.
On June 16, a separate incident occurred on a road in Shikoku‑Chuo City, Ehime, where a light‑truck driver aged 72 was killed after his vehicle was rear‑ended by a large truck that was slowing at a red light. The driver of the large truck, a 57‑year‑old man, escaped injury. Police are investigating both accidents.
Both events underscore safety concerns involving light‑truck operations in the prefecture.
