Romanian police and emergency services rescue 120+ cats and several dogs

Police officers from the Bucharest Capital Police’s Animal Protection Service responded to a citizen’s tip and rescued more than 120 cats kept in poor conditions at two addresses in Sector 2. The felines – 84 at one location and 40 at a second construction site – were taken to several veterinary clinics for health evaluation and care.

In western Romania, military firefighters rescued two dogs in Bihor County after emergency calls to the 112 system. One dog was pulled from a drainage canal in the village of Birtin, and another was retrieved from the Crișul Repede River in Oradea. Both animals were returned unharmed to their owners.

In the city of Galaţi, gendarmerie officers intervened after a 112 alert reported two dogs roaming a shopping‑centre car park. The dogs were found friendly, entered the police vehicle voluntarily, and were taken to the municipal shelter pending identification of their owners.

Authorities emphasized the importance of reporting animal neglect and urged the public to use the 112 emergency number when animals are in danger.
