Two suspects arrested after attempted gold‑shop robbery in Larnaca, Cyprus

Police in Larnaca have arrested a second suspect, a 41‑year‑old European citizen, for the attempted robbery of a gold‑shop yesterday. He was taken into custody on Tuesday afternoon and is expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court tomorrow for a detention order.

The detention of the 33‑year‑old co‑suspect was suspended after his lawyer cited health problems; the process will resume tomorrow. Investigators are probing a range of offences, including conspiracy to commit a felony, attempted robbery, illegal possession of a Category B firearm, assault causing bodily injury, possession of an assault weapon, intimidation using firearms, and illegal possession and transport of explosives. Police recovered a vehicle matching the suspects’ description, seized two fully‑loaded magazines, a submachine gun and other evidence from the 33‑year‑old’s residence.
