Two Truck Drivers Killed in D2 Highway Crash Near Brno

Early Saturday morning, two heavy‑goods vehicles collided on the 11th kilometre of the D2 motorway near Blučina, south of Brno, where the road is temporarily narrowed to two lanes per direction. According to police spokeswoman Andrea Cejnková, a Hungarian truck heading away from Brno struck concrete barriers, lost control and was hit by a Romanian truck approaching from the opposite lane. Both trucks caught fire and the drivers could not be rescued.

All emergency units, including fire crews, a high‑capacity ambulance and a rescue helicopter, responded. The crash caused a full, bidirectional closure of the D2, with traffic diverted to nearby exits at Chrlice and Blučina. The incident occurred at a site where state road crews are rebuilding three bridges between kilometres 10‑11, work that will keep the lane reduction in place until at least September. No hazardous materials were being transported.

The accident adds to a string of recent tragedies on the same stretch of the D2, which has already seen two other fatal crashes in early June.
