Two Young Men Drowned at Imperia’s Impero River Mouth

Two young men were found dead at the mouth of the Impero River in Imperia, Italy, on the morning of 27 June 2026. The bodies were recovered after a coordinated rescue operation that involved fire‑department divers, the Coast Guard, Carabinieri, police, and medical personnel from the 118 emergency service. Helicopter‑borne divers from Genoa were dispatched, locating the first victim at a depth of about 3‑4 metres and the second around 7‑8 metres.

One of the victims has been identified as a 26‑year‑old of Tunisian origin; the second victim remains unidentified. Early investigations suggest one of the youths may have jumped or fallen into the water, with the other attempting to help and also drowning. Personal items, including bottles of alcohol, have been recovered from the riverbank. The bodies were taken to the Port of Monaco for autopsy and judicial investigation.

Authorities have sealed off the area around the river’s mouth while technical examinations continue to determine the precise circumstances of the tragedy.
