Typhoon 12 approaches Taiwan, bringing heavy rain and strong winds

The Central Weather Bureau in Taiwan has issued a sea‑storm warning for the 12th tropical cyclone of the season, which is expected to become Typhoon 12. The system is forecast to move northwestward, reaching its closest point to Taiwan on Friday night through Saturday, with its outer circulation bringing heavy rain, especially in Hualien, Taitung and the Hengchun Peninsula, and localised downpours elsewhere. Strong winds and sea‑swell over 3 m are anticipated along the east and south coasts, while temperatures in the western half of the island could exceed 36 °C. Authorities have advised the public to avoid coastal, river and mountainous activities and to monitor updates.

Japan’s Meteorological Agency also tracks the same disturbance, noting that it is likely to develop into Typhoon 12 within 24 hours. Forecasts from the agency, the US Joint Typhoon Warning Center and the European Centre for Medium‑Range Weather Forecasts indicate a northwest track that will not directly affect Japan, though the agencies continue to monitor it closely for any changes.
