Typhoon 18 and multiple tropical systems active in Western Pacific

Multiple tropical systems are active or developing in the Western Pacific, potentially resulting in four simultaneous typhoons.

Typhoon 18 (Souder) is currently near the Mariana Islands and is forecasted to reach very strong intensity as it approaches the waters south of Japan by August 23. There is a possibility it may approach Okinawa.

Typhoon 20 is located approximately 100 kilometers north of Yonaguni Island, moving south-southwest. Heavy rain and strong winds are expected in the Sakishima Islands, with a risk of linear precipitation zones in the Yaeyama region.

Additionally, a tropical depression in the Tonkin Gulf is expected to develop into Typhoon 19, which may approach South China by August 27. Meanwhile, a tropical depression east of the Philippines is projected to develop into Typhoon 21 within 12 hours, moving in a northeasterly direction.
