Typhoon Dujuan tracks toward Japan, threatening Silver Week holidays

Typhoon Dujuan (No. 24/25) has formed near the Mariana Islands and is tracking toward Japan. While the storm is expected to have no direct impact on Taiwan, it poses a significant threat to Japan during the upcoming Silver Week autumn holiday.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) forecasts the storm may approach the Ogasawara Islands between September 18 and 19, potentially moving toward the Izu Islands and the Kanto region, including Tokyo, early next week. The storm is expected to be large-scale, with gale-force winds extending hundreds of kilometers from its center. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in eastern and northern Japan, with some areas like Chiba Prefecture potentially seeing up to 300 mm of rain per day.

In Taiwan, weather remains mostly stable with cloudy to sunny conditions and occasional light rain in mountainous or windward areas. Temperatures in Taiwan are expected to be warm, with some inland areas reaching 35 to 36 degrees Celsius. Forecasters advise travelers in Japan to monitor weather updates closely due to the potential for flight and transportation disruptions during the holiday period.
