Typhoon Dujuan trajectory and threat to Japan

Typhoon Dujuan, identified as the 25th tropical cyclone of the season, has formed near the Mariana Islands and is projected to track toward Japan. While the storm is expected to have no direct impact on Taiwan, it poses a significant threat to Japan during the upcoming Silver Week holiday period.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) forecasts that the large-scale storm will approach the Ogasawara Islands between September 18 and 19. As it moves north, it is expected to impact the Izu Islands on Sunday and pass near the Boso Peninsula and central Tokyo on Monday. The Kanto and Tohoku regions are likely to experience heavy rain and strong winds early next week. The storm is characterized as large-scale, with gale-force winds extending hundreds of kilometers from its center.

Forecasters warn that the typhoon’s moisture may interact with a stalled autumn rain front, potentially intensifying rainfall across eastern and western Japan. In some areas, such as Chiba Prefecture, daily rainfall could reach up to 300 millimeters. Travelers during the five-day Silver Week holiday are advised to monitor weather updates closely due to potential disruptions to flights and transportation.

In Taiwan, weather remains mostly stable with cloudy to sunny conditions and occasional light rain in mountainous areas, with temperatures reaching 35 to 36 degrees Celsius in some inland regions.
