Typhoon No. 15 approaches Kanto region with landfall forecast
Typhoon No. 15 is forecast to approach the Kanto region and potentially make landfall near Ibaraki Prefecture between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on August 11. As of the morning of August 11, the storm was located east of Iwaki in Fukushima Prefecture, moving west-northwest with a central pressure of 985 hPa and maximum sustained winds of 23 m/s.
Authorities have issued warnings for heavy rain, strong winds, and high waves across the Kanto and southern Tohoku regions. Residents are cautioned against flooding in low-lying areas, river swelling, and landslides. In Kanto, 24-hour rainfall could reach 150mm in some areas.
The storm is expected to move toward the Tokai and Sanyo areas by August 13. In Shiga Prefecture, the typhoon is expected to make its closest approach on the morning of August 12, with potential for warning-level heavy rainfall and flooding. In the Hokuriku region, including Kanazawa, high tides and storm surges are a concern through August 12.
