Typhoon Saudel causes severe flooding and evacuations in China

Typhoon Saudel has caused widespread destruction across southeastern China, particularly in Fujian and Zhejiang provinces. The storm underwent a rare regeneration in the South China Sea, making its third landfall in Zhangzhou, Fujian, on Thursday.

In Fujian, the city of Fuding experienced severe flooding that submerged streets and vehicles, prompting authorities to activate a Level II emergency response. More than 83,000 people have been evacuated across the province. In Ningde, heavy rainfall topped 400mm in 24 hours, leading to road closures and the suspension of work and classes.

In Zhejiang, extreme rainfall trapped over 2,500 teachers and students in a school compound in Wenzhou. Emergency crews utilized drones to airlift food and drinking water to those stranded.

As the typhoon moves toward Guangdong, heavy rainfall is expected to continue through Friday. Meanwhile, in Vietnam, the storm's circulation has contributed to heatwaves in northern and central regions, though weather conditions are expected to improve as the system moves further away.
