Typhoon triggers extensive transport delays and cancellations across Japan

A typhoon moving toward Japan has disrupted multiple modes of transport. JR Central warned that the Tokaido Shinkansen may experience delays or suspensions on some sections from the first train on June 27, while JR East indicated possible delays and suspensions on conventional lines in the Tokyo metropolitan area between June 27 and June 28.

Air travel was also hit: Japan Airlines cancelled 70 flights and All Nippon Airways 52 flights, mainly serving Naha and Kagoshima. In Okinawa, Naha Airport opened three hours late on June 26, and the monorail service, which had been halted, resumed at 11 a.m. Bus routes on the island are set to restart by early afternoon. Public schools in several municipalities were closed, and a wind warning was lifted after the storm passed.
