Scotland sees spate of incidents: hotel fire in Glasgow, assault in Cumbernauld, lorry blaze on A9

A fire broke out outside the Clyde Hotel on Argyle Street in Glasgow city centre on the night of 26 May 2026. Members of the public used a fire extinguisher to help control the blaze, and Scottish Fire and Rescue reported no casualties.

On 23 May 2026, two men aged 36 and 37 were seriously assaulted in an underpass near Old Glasgow Road in Cumbernauld. Both required hospital treatment. Police are seeking two suspects described as white men in their 30s, one in a high‑visibility jacket with a face covering and the other in a dark tracksuit.

A lorry caught fire on the A9 south of Dunkeld on 25 May 2026, prompting a full closure of the road in both directions. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the vehicle fire, and the highway was reopened later that evening. No injuries were reported.
