Tyre, Lebanon Holds Muharram Mourning Amid War Devastation

In the battered southern city of Tyre, residents gathered for a Muharram mourning ceremony as the Israel‑Hezbollah war, which has left most streets in ruins, entered a reported cease‑fire on Friday. Women and children wore yellow scarves and black clothing, displaying portraits of relatives killed fighting for Hezbollah, including Iman Dilbani who mourned her son.

The event featured portraits of Hezbollah leader Sheikh Naim Kassem and Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, while clerics invoked the martyrdom of Imam Hussein as a symbol of resistance. The war has displaced over one million Lebanese, caused nearly 4,000 deaths according to the Health Ministry, and saw Israeli ground forces occupy parts of southern Lebanon. A U.S.–mediated cease‑fire agreement with Iran aims to end hostilities, but many locals remain skeptical of lasting peace.
