Tyrnavos bids farewell to former long-term mayor Dimitris Kougionis

The local community of Tyrnavos gathered to bid farewell to Dimitris Kougionis, who served as the city's mayor for sixteen consecutive years. The funeral service was held at the Holy Church of Saint Gedon in Tyrnavos, presided over by Metropolitan Hieronymos of Larissa and Tyrnavos.

Kougionis first was elected mayor in 1978 at the age of 26, serving four consecutive terms. During the service, Metropolitan Hieronymos spoke of Kougionis's long journey and his spirit of cooperation. The current Mayor of Tyrnavos, Stelios Tsikritsis, delivered a eulogy describing the late leader as ‘the reformer of modern Tyrnavos,’ highlighting his significant contributions to the city's development and infrastructure.
