Tyrol, Austria struck by severe storms, mudslides and flooding

Heavy thunderstorms swept across Tyrol on Wednesday evening, triggering mudslides (Murenabgänge) and a flood wave in the Ötztal and Pitztal valleys. The regional government activated the AT‑Alert on all mobile phones, urging residents to stay indoors and avoid basements, tunnels and bridges. In Sölden, about 30 people were evacuated and taken to a hotel in Vent after a large mudslide damaged a parking area and flooded several cellars.

A similar storm on Sunday affected the Kufstein area, with mudslides in Kundl, Jenbach and the Kundler Klamm. Firefighters rescued nine people from a mountain inn and cleared blocked roads, while the Kasbachstraße in Jenbach was closed briefly before reopening. Across the region, dozens of emergency calls were logged, roads were temporarily closed, and significant property damage was reported.
