Tyrol mountain rescue: Hiker trapped in crevice after mobile signal failure
A 54-year-old German hiker from Munich was seriously injured after falling approximately nine meters into a rock crevice near Burgstein at the Hinterer Sonnwendjoch in Tyrol on September 25.
Following the fall, which occurred between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM, the woman reportedly lost consciousness and regained it around midnight. She attempted to call for emergency services, but her efforts failed due to a lack of mobile network coverage within the crevice. Consequently, she spent the night in the crevice with temperatures dropping near zero degrees Celsius, wearing only light hiking clothing.
Rescue efforts began the following morning around 7:30 AM when two hikers from Germany heard cries for help. They located the woman and successfully placed an emergency call. Rescue teams, including the Kufstein Mountain Rescue and Alpine Police, extracted her using ropes. She was airlifted by helicopter to Kufstein Hospital with severe injuries.
