Tyros Municipality Mobilises After Severe Hailstorm and Starts Demolition of Unsafe Buildings

Following a violent hailstorm that struck the Deleia area of the Tyros municipality on Wednesday afternoon, local officials deployed emergency crews to clear fallen trees and debris from roads, parks and private homes. Deputy mayor of Civil Protection Nikos Datalgiannis, appointed advisor Alekos Chatzikranios and community president Makis Gkotis coordinated the response, while municipal teams worked to restore access and remove hazardous branches.

The storm caused extensive damage to agriculture, destroying apple orchards, vineyards and fruit crops that were near harvest time. Mayor Stelios Tsikritsis appealed to the National Disaster Management Authority (ELGA) for swift assessments and compensation for affected farmers.

In a related effort, the municipality announced the completion of demolitions of unsafe structures identified after the recent earthquake. The work is being carried out at no cost to property owners, but owners must request disconnection of electricity from the public utility (DEDDIE) to allow demolition to proceed safely. The municipality urged all owners involved to complete the required steps promptly to avoid further delays in restoring the affected neighborhoods.
