U16 Women's Handball World Championship begins in Morocco
The inaugural U16 Women's Handball World Championship is underway in Agadir, Morocco. The tournament aims to provide young athletes with international experience earlier in their careers, bridging the gap between youth levels and the U18 and U20 championships.
Germany's U16 national team opened the tournament with a dominant 53:12 victory over Mexico. Led by coach Gino Smits, the German squad displayed strong offensive play, with Nika Lemke earning player honors after scoring eight goals. Most players in the squad recorded their first career World Championship goals during the match.
The United States U16 team faced a difficult start, losing 10:61 to China. Among the American players is Amelina Schulz, the 16-year-old daughter of former German heavyweight boxer Axel Schulz. Schulz, who plays for Füchse Berlin in Germany, scored one goal and provided one assist during the match.
