U2 releases tribute cover of Shane MacGowan song

U2 has released a new recording of the song ‘Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah’ as a tribute to the late Shane MacGowan, the iconic frontman of The Pogues. The cover reimagines the high-energy 1988 track for an upcoming tribute album titled ‘20th Century Paddy: The Songs of Shane MacGowan’, which is scheduled for release on November 13 via Rubyworks.

The new version features U2’s signature arena-sized dynamics, utilizing textured guitars and driving basslines to expand the sonic frame of the original scrappy energy. The Edge commented on MacGowan’s unique ability to blend folk music, punk, and dark humor, describing his voice as a bridge between traditional pub storytelling and the punk stage.

The tribute album features a diverse lineup of artists, including Bruce Springsteen, Hozier, Tom Waits, The Libertines, and Glen Hansard, curated in partnership with Victoria Mary Clarke and Siobhan MacGowan.
