Mexican universities expand academic offerings and enrollment

Educational institutions in Mexico are reporting significant developments in enrollment and academic programming. The Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC) has welcomed 196 new online students for the 2026-8 period. This includes the inaugural class of 94 students for a new degree in Data Engineering and Artificial Intelligence, alongside new programs in Software Development and Organizational Management and Innovation. Rector Luis Enrique Palafox Maestre noted that the expansion of online offerings aims to increase access to higher education by providing flexibility for students with professional or personal responsibilities.

In Ensenada, UABC will host the First Urban Mobility and Inclusion Fair on September 21 and 22, 2026. The event will address issues such as transport saturation, public transit, and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.

In Tamaulipas, the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) in Nuevo Laredo has reached a milestone of approximately 3,000 students following the enrollment of over 600 new students. The growth is attributed to new programs like Psychology and Freight Transport. Additionally, the Colegio de Tamaulipas has announced a regional forum for October 14-15 to discuss the impact and institutional challenges posed by the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence in higher education.
