UAE accelerates AI capabilities and digital infrastructure
The United Arab Emirates is aggressively expanding its digital and artificial intelligence capabilities. At the AI Everything Abu Dhabi event, Minister of State for AI Omar Sultan Al Olama announced a program to train 80,000 government employees as AI 'super users' capable of building autonomous agents. Al Olama also predicted the rise of billion-dollar one-person companies powered by AI.
Infrastructure developments are also underway. Etisalat has launched a project to expand international connectivity capacity to over 500 Tbps by 2030. In the telecommunications sector, du has deployed a 5G-Advanced network at the Mall of the Emirates, delivering speeds exceeding 3.5 Gbps. Additionally, Open Innovation AI and NetApp have partnered to develop Sovereign AI Infrastructure designed for governments and enterprises.
Industry experts and reports highlight both opportunities and hurdles. While McKinsey reports that the share of organizations scaling AI agents has risen to 40%, Deloitte notes that only 25% of organizations have successfully moved at least 40% of their AI pilots into production. Experts emphasize that the primary challenge for widespread adoption remains organizational change and user trust rather than purely technical development.
