UAE adviser Gergash says aggression cannot dictate new Gulf geopolitics

Anwar Gergash, senior adviser to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, warned that recent “betrayal‑driven aggression” against Gulf states cannot be used to impose new geopolitical facts. He wrote on X that “imposing any status quo born from aggression does not bring stability, but sows seeds of future conflict.”

Gergash referred specifically to the Strait of Hormuz, a vital energy‑shipping route, after Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Navy issued a sharp warning. The Guard condemned an uncoordinated declaration of a new shipping lane through the strait, calling it “unacceptable and wholly dangerous” and reiterating that only the route authorized by Iran is permissible.

During the same period, US Secretary of State Marko Rubio met President Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi. The talks covered the US‑Iran memorandum of understanding, the safety of navigation in Hormuz and reaffirmed US commitment to the security of the United Arab Emirates and the wider Gulf region.
