UAE airlines resume overflights of Iranian airspace

UAE-based airlines, including Emirates and flydubai, have resumed overflights of Iranian airspace for the first time since regional geopolitical instability necessitated rerouting. The return to these corridors allows for more direct paths to destinations in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia, reducing flight times by approximately 40 minutes compared to detours through Iraqi airspace. This shift is expected to improve fuel efficiency and reduce operating costs.

Despite the resumption of Iranian overflights, regional flight schedules remain impacted by security concerns. Etihad Airways, Emirates, and Air Arabia have reported cancellations or adjustments to specific routes, particularly those connecting the UAE to Bahrain and Kuwait. Additionally, travelers flying between the UAE and India are advised to allow extra time at airports due to heightened security measures in preparation for India's Independence Day.
