UAE business and residency regulations for 2026
The United Arab Emirates is implementing several regulatory changes and maintaining specific frameworks for business setup and residency through 2026. Under Federal Tax Authority (FTA) rules, Small Business Relief allows companies with annual revenue of AED 3 million or less to benefit from a 0% corporate tax rate until December 31, 2026. Starting January 1, 2027, this relief will end, and a 9% corporate tax will apply to taxable profits exceeding AED 375,000.
For entrepreneurs, business setup options include mainland and free zone structures. Free zone licenses in the northern emirates, such as Ajman and Sharjah, offer lower entry costs compared to Dubai. In Dubai, investor visas issued through companies typically cost between AED 6,000 and AED 9,000 for a two-year period, covering requirements such as medical screenings and Emirates ID processing.
Regarding residency, individuals can qualify for a UAE Tax Residency Certificate by meeting the 183-day rule within a calendar year. This certificate is used to prove tax residency for OECD treaty purposes and to support the UAE’s 0% personal income tax status. Additionally, visa holders should note that overstay fines are set at AED 50 per day for various visa categories.
