UAE businesses adapt to corporate tax and e-invoicing mandates

Businesses in the United Arab Emirates are navigating significant shifts in regulatory requirements, specifically regarding corporate tax and upcoming e-invoicing mandates.

Under Federal Decree-Law No. 47 of 2022, companies must adapt to new corporate tax frameworks. Key considerations include managing statutory income thresholds, utilizing small business relief mechanisms, and adhering to strict transfer pricing regulations for related-party arrangements. Free zone enterprises must also meet specific compliance criteria to maintain their 0% tax status. Modernizing bookkeeping to meet IFRS standards is highlighted as a necessity for operational resilience and avoiding penalties, such as the AED 10,000 late-registration fine.

In parallel, the transition to e-invoicing requires preparation beyond technical software integration. Successful implementation involves establishing accurate company information, confirming Tax Identification Numbers (TIN), and assigning internal ownership of the process. Experts suggest that businesses must prepare invoice data and test real-world scenarios before onboarding with an Accredited Service Provider (ASP) to avoid delays and ensure data security.
