UAE Denounces Iran at BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting Over Hundreds of Attacks

At a BRICS foreign ministers meeting in New Delhi on 15 May 2026, United Arab Emirates state minister Khalifa Shahin Al Marar publicly rejected Iran’s attempts to justify attacks on the UAE and other regional states. He said the UAE has repelled roughly 3,000 missile, cruise‑missile and drone strikes since 28 February 2026, targeting civilian infrastructure such as airports, ports, oil facilities, desalination plants, power networks and residential areas.

Al Marar invoked the UN Charter’s Article 51, asserting the UAE’s right to self‑defence and warning that any accusations or threats against its sovereignty would be met with a legal, diplomatic and military response. He referenced UN Security Council resolution 2817 (2026), backed by 136 countries, and a UN Human Rights Council resolution condemning the Iranian attacks. International bodies including the International Maritime Organization, the International Telecommunication Union and the Food and Agriculture Organization have also condemned Iran’s actions, noting the attempted blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and its impact on global energy security.
