UAE endures multi‑day thunderstorms, rain and soaring temperatures
The National Centre of Meteorology forecast several days of unsettled weather across the United Arab Emirates, with thunderstorms, rain and gusty winds expected through Tuesday as a surface low‑pressure system combines with an upper‑air trough. Convective clouds will develop over eastern, southern and inland areas, bringing showers and wind gusts of up to 50 kph.
Temperatures remain extreme, with inland highs near 49 °C and coastal cities around 45 °C; humidity can reach 85 % in coastal zones. Cloud‑seeding flights have been carried out when suitable clouds were detected.
Astronomers note that the Suhail (Star of Yemen) is expected to rise on 24 August, signalling the start of a 40‑day transition (Sufriya) that should bring cooler weather after the peak summer heat.
