UAE Extends Emirates ID Renewal Window to 12 Months
Effective 14 July, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security announced that UAE nationals may start renewing their Emirates ID up to 12 months before the card expires, double the previous six‑month window. The change is part of the Zero Government Bureaucracy programme and aims to give citizens more time to align ID and passport renewals, reduce last‑minute pressure for travel, school registration, medical appointments and other official transactions.
A separate guide outlines the most common reasons Emirates ID renewal applications are rejected, including non‑compliant photographs, data entry errors, and missing supporting documents. The Authority requires photos to be recent, clear, 35 mm × 45 mm, 600 dpi, with a plain light‑coloured background and no obscuring accessories. Applicants are advised to obtain professional passport‑type photos and verify all information before submission to avoid delays.
