UAE pledges $30 million emergency aid for civilians in Sudan’s El Obeid

The United Arab Emirates announced an emergency humanitarian response of US$30 million for civilians in El Obeid, North Kordofan, Sudan. The aid, to be delivered through the UAE Aid Agency under the direction of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will address urgent food, healthcare, safe drinking water and shelter needs of displaced persons and vulnerable groups.

UAE officials emphasized the priority of protecting civilians, establishing safe humanitarian corridors and urging all parties to respect international humanitarian law. Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan highlighted the need to keep civilian suffering unpoliticised and to support a Sudanese‑led political solution, noting that there is no military solution to the crisis. The UAE has provided about US$800 million in assistance to Sudan since the conflict began and will continue working with the United Nations and partners to aid refugees and conflict‑affected communities both inside Sudan and in neighboring countries.
