UAE ranks 22nd globally in electric mobility readiness

The United Arab Emirates has ranked first among GCC countries and 22nd globally in electric mobility readiness, according to Arthur D. Little’s Global Electric Mobility Readiness Index (GEMRIX) 2026. The study, which assessed 31 markets, indicates that the transition to electric vehicles is increasingly driven by a comprehensive ecosystem including charging infrastructure, government policy, and total cost of ownership rather than vehicle technology alone.

In 2025, electric vehicles accounted for approximately 9% of new vehicle sales in the UAE. This included battery electric vehicles (BEVs) at 6% to 8% and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) at roughly 2.5%. To support this growth, the country’s charging infrastructure has expanded to approximately 2,800 points, featuring 1,250 direct-current chargers and 350 high-power units.

The UAE has established long-term sustainability targets, aiming for electric and hybrid vehicles to comprise 50% of all vehicles on the road by 2050. Additionally, Dubai has set a specific goal for electric vehicles to represent more than 15% of its vehicle fleet by 2030.
