UAEMéx Texcoco students end strike and resume classes

Students at the UAEMéx Texcoco University Center have agreed to end a strike and resume classes on Tuesday, September 8. The decision follows a ten-hour extraordinary meeting held on Sunday between student assembly representatives and university officials to address academic, administrative, and financial grievances.

The strike, which began on September 3, was triggered by disputes over the renewal process for the campus directorate and demands for improved infrastructure, maintenance, and services. Students had expressed dissatisfaction with the rules for the directorate renewal, arguing they did not incorporate previous agreements made with Rector Martha Patricia Zarza Delgado regarding community participation.

During the negotiations, parties worked toward establishing concrete dates and actions for campus improvements, including a new maintenance plan and the rehabilitation of the library, sports areas, and common spaces. The student community will continue to monitor the fulfillment of these commitments as academic activities resume.
