UAEMéx Texcoco student protests and strike
Overview
Students at the UAEMéx Texcoco University Center initiated a period of unrest following the breakdown of dialogue with university authorities. The Student Assembly cited ignored demands regarding poor campus conditions and criticized the announcement of a process to elect a director without consulting the Governing Council. In late August, students considered several protest measures, including a suspension of academic activities, the occupation of a toll booth, or public demonstrations.
Following the commencement of a strike on September 3, negotiations between student assembly representatives and university officials led to a resolution. After a ten-hour extraordinary meeting, students agreed to end the strike and resume classes on September 8. The agreement addressed grievances concerning infrastructure, maintenance, and the directorate renewal process. The parties established commitments for a new maintenance plan and the rehabilitation of the library, sports areas, and common spaces, which the student community intends to monitor.
