Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas celebrates 76th anniversary

The Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) celebrated its 76th anniversary with a solemn ceremony at the Centro Universitario Sur. Rector Dámaso Anaya Alvarado led the event, paying tribute to the seven founders who established the institution in 1950 through the 'Educación Profesional de Tampico' association. The ceremony honored the legacy of figures including Dr. Alfredo E. Gochicoa and Professor Artemio Villafaña.

During the commemoration, Anaya Alvarado highlighted the university's growth, noting a student enrollment exceeding 45,000 for the August 2026 cycle, a 12.5% increase since 2024. He emphasized a commitment to a humanistic transformation and noted that 100% of the university's evaluable academic offerings are accredited. The institution currently operates 28 faculties and 93 undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

In a separate cultural milestone, the UAT Symphony Orchestra (OSUAT) celebrated 50 years of history with the 'MexiUATísimo' concert in Tampico. Directed by Armando Vargas Guevara, the performance featured regional folk dance and music. The orchestra, which originated in 1976, continues its mission through its 2026 Autumn-Winter season.
