UAT expands ties, research, scholarships, outreach

Entities: Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas · Dámaso Anaya Alvarado · Dr. Edilia de la Rosa Manzano · Facultad de Ciencias de la Educación y Humanidades · Río Bravo

Overview

By late June 2026 the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) had broadened collaborations with private firms, the state government and its own campuses, creating regional industry clusters in automotive parts, automation and electromechanical manufacturing. Graduate programmes were aligned with cross‑border market needs, and faculty participation in the National System of Researchers helped attract foreign investment. Rector Dámaso Anaya Alvarado led delegations to the Supreme Court and the Federal Judicial Administration. In July 2026 UAT formalised new partnerships, hosted the “Amor por la Ciencia” STEAM camp for 186 children, announced the 2026‑3 New Entry Scholarship (waiving first‑semester fees for high‑school graduates with a 9.5 GPA), and unveiled more than 20 new online bachelor’s degrees and an online high‑school track. New physical campuses opened in Nuevo Laredo and Prepa UAT Tampico. Students from the Multidisciplinary Academic Unit in Mante placed third at the Feria de Ciencias e Ingenierías de Tamaulipas with an agro‑innovation using invasive devil fish. The university launched the campus‑wide recycling drive “Recolecta UAT” and the two‑week summer art camp “Tardes Creativas 2026”. Graduate researcher Aracely Martínez Bautista earned second place at ExpoCiencias Tamaulipas with the biopesticide “CempaNeem”. On 29 July the university graduated its first International Business master’s cohort (18 graduates) in Río Bravo, a ceremony led by director Rita Miranda Olaya and attended by academic secretary Rosa Issel Acosta González, highlighting the push to decentralise advanced studies. The same day José de Jesús Guzmán Morales was appointed head of the Defensoría de los Derechos Universitarios and a fully online Master in Educational Innovation and Technologies for Learning was launched. On 31 July UAT continued its circular‑economy training, with Dr. Edilia de la Rosa Manzano and Dr. Leonardo Uriel Arellano Méndez teaching eco‑design and water‑use diagnostics.
