João Pessoa elects civil society entities for child rights council

The Municipal Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents of João Pessoa (CMDCA-JP) held an election assembly to select organized civil society entities for the 2026-2028 biennium. The event took place at the Instituto dos Cegos da Paraíba and involved government counselors, an electoral commission, and technical staff.

Késsia Liliana Bezerra, the Secretary of Human Rights and Citizenship, described the assembly as an exercise in citizenship aimed at collective construction for child and adolescent rights policies. She emphasized the necessity of integrated action between the government and civil society to ensure these groups remain a priority in public policy.

Prior to the election, the council released a final list of eligible institutions. Nine organizations were cleared as candidates, including the Instituto dos Cegos da Paraíba and the Associação Beneficente das Comunidades Remanescentes de Quilombo Palmares (ABCRQ-JP). Additionally, 15 organizations were qualified as voters in the process.
