Uber Technologies Inc. announced a multi‑year commitment of more than $10 billion to expand its autonomous‑vehicle (AV) fleet. The company currently runs robotaxi services in seven cities and aims to be in 15 cities by the end of the year and 28 cities worldwide by 2028. Uber and its software partner Wayve have secured a robotaxi licence for London, with over 100,000 London residents indicating interest in using the service. At the same time, Waymo, Alphabet’s self‑driving unit, plans to end its exclusive partnership with Uber in Austin and Atlanta and to launch its own app in those markets in early 2028. Uber also intends to field about 20,000 of its own autonomous vehicles, working with partners such as Nuro, Lucid, and others. In its Q2 2026 earnings, Uber reported revenue of $14.19 billion, gross bookings of $58 billion and free cash flow exceeding $10 billion. The company also confirmed its $100‑billion‑plus acquisition of Delivery Hero, which will extend its platform to nearly 100 markets. Waymo has opened its Dallas robotaxi service to all users, having served roughly 150,000 riders since February.
