Uber launches live video monitoring for teen trips in Colombia

Uber has introduced a new technological update to its Uber Teens product in Colombia, allowing parents and legal guardians to monitor trips in real time via live video. The feature enables guardians to view the interior of the vehicle through the driver's mobile device during journeys taken by adolescents aged 14 to 17.

When a trip begins, the app sends a push notification to the registered parent or guardian. Upon clicking the link, the guardian can access a live stream, provided the driver has enabled the function and cellular data stability allows. If the video feed is interrupted, users can still rely on GPS tracking and a group chat feature to communicate with both the driver and the teenager.

To protect privacy, the live stream is restricted to the specific parent or guardian linked to the teenager's account and ends automatically once the trip is completed. Uber stated that in the event of a reported incident, the company may access recordings as part of its safety and support processes.
