Ubiquiti launches UniFi Travel Router Long-Range

Ubiquiti has released the UniFi Travel Router Long-Range (UTR-LR), a new variant of its portable networking device. The primary upgrade is a foldable, adjustable antenna designed to improve Wi-Fi connectivity over longer distances and provide more stable connections in areas with weak signals.

The device functions by creating a private local network from an existing internet source, such as Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or USB tethering. It is not a cellular router and does not include a SIM card slot. It supports various VPN options, including WireGuard, and can handle captive portals commonly found in hotels and public networks.

Physically, the Long-Range model is slightly thicker than the original version due to the antenna, measuring 19.5 mm compared to the standard model's 12.5 mm. The footprint remains similar at approximately 96 by 65 mm. Both models utilize Wi-Fi 5 technology. The device features USB-C ports for power and tethering, as well as Ethernet ports for input and wired output.
