Ubiquiti UniFi hardware and software updates

Overview

Ubiquiti has released the UniFi Travel Router Long-Range (UTR-LR), a portable networking device designed to improve connectivity in environments with weak signals, such as hotels or campsites. The hardware features a foldable, high-gain antenna array to enhance signal reception and stability, making the unit slightly thicker than the standard model. While the device utilizes the WiFi 5 (802.11ac) standard, it supports various connectivity methods including Ethernet, wireless WISP mode, and USB tethering.

In addition to the hardware launch, Ubiquiti has updated its UniFi Network software to version 10.6. This software update includes ‘Topology Spotlight’ for client analysis, ‘Channel AI’ for automated nightly channel optimization, and ‘SafeOps’, a feature that allows management VLAN changes to automatically revert if a configuration fails. The new router also supports AmneziaWG, a modified version of the WireGuard VPN protocol, to provide enhanced privacy.
