Ñuble Region energy security to be strengthened by new transmission line

The Santa Elisa–Quilmo II transmission line project has received unanimous approval, aimed at strengthening energy security in Chile’s Ñuble Region. The initiative, presented by Empresa Eléctrica Cordillera SpA, involves the construction of an 8.4-kilometer, single-circuit high-voltage line with 58 structures.

The project will interconnect the Quilmo II Substation with the new 66 kV yard at the Santa Elisa Substation in Chillán Viejo. This connection is designed to redistribute energy flows, provide mutual backup between substations, and reduce the risk of overloads. Officials noted that the infrastructure will increase system resilience against extreme weather events and support future residential, industrial, and energy development in the region.
