Energy development in Ñuble Region

Overview

Energy development in Chile’s Ñuble Region has progressed through both corporate efficiency initiatives and infrastructure expansion.

Initially, forty-seven companies engaged with the Regional Productive Development Committee to advance projects regarding energy efficiency and non-conventional renewable energies. Supported by a $1.35 billion public investment from the Regional Government of Ñuble, these efforts aim to modernize production and reduce costs, such as through solar energy integration.

Subsequently, focus expanded to grid stability with the unanimous approval of the Santa Elisa–Quilmo II transmission line project. This 8.4-kilometer high-voltage line, proposed by Empresa Eléctrica Cordillera SpA, is intended to interconnect substations to redistribute energy flows, provide mutual backup, and increase system resilience against extreme weather.
