UBS forecasts profit growth amid Swiss capital regulation debate

UBS is anticipating a significant rise in financial performance, with analysts forecasting a 9.1 percent increase in net profit to $2.71 billion and a 24 percent rise in pre-tax profit to $3.52 billion. Revenue is expected to grow by 6.0 percent to $12.93 billion, driven largely by increases in Global Wealth Management fees and trading.

Beyond financial projections, the bank faces political scrutiny regarding equity capital requirements. The Swiss National Council has proposed requiring foreign subsidiaries to be backed by 90 percent hard equity capital, a move UBS has criticized as “excessive.” This regulatory tension has fueled speculation regarding potential relocation or mergers, though analysts suggest the benefits of moving to jurisdictions with less stringent rules may be limited due to long transition periods.
