Ubuntu 26.10 beta release introduces Myna AI dictation
Canonical has released the beta version of Ubuntu 26.10, codenamed ‘Stonking Stingray’. This intermediate release, which offers nine months of support, marks the beginning of the package freeze phase as developers focus on final testing and bug fixes ahead of the scheduled October 15 launch.
Key technical updates include the integration of GNOME 51, designed to provide smoother animations, and improved window management via the GNOME Tiling Assistant. The App Center has also been updated to manage closed-source additional drivers. The system features the Linux kernel 7.3-rc and Mesa 26.2.
A significant new feature in this version is Myna, an AI-based dictation platform. Myna is integrated directly into the system, allowing users to dictate text into any application, including the terminal, via a keyboard shortcut. Early assessments suggest the platform is fast, accurate, and highly integrated.
