Ubuntu 26.10 release cycle

Overview

Canonical has moved through the release cycle for Ubuntu 26.10, codenamed ‘Stonking Stingray’. The process began with the beta release, which introduced the Myna AI dictation platform and technical updates such as GNOME 51 and the Linux 7.3-rc kernel.

Following the beta phase, the full version of Ubuntu 26.10 was officially released. This interim distribution provides nine months of support through July 2027. The final release highlights Myna as an optional speech-to-text tool that utilizes locally installed AI models to ensure audio data is processed on-device rather than in the cloud. Jon Seager, VP of Ubuntu Engineering at Canonical, stated that Myna is a milestone in the company’s AI roadmap with a focus on accessibility.

Additional technical features in the release include post-quantum ready package signatures, expanded full-disk encryption with TPM support, passkey support at the login screen, and core tools written in Rust.
