UCC Capsule Coffee Shop opens at Tokyo Midtown Hibiya

The UCC Capsule Coffee Shop is a limited-time event held at Tokyo Midtown Hibiya from October 9 to October 12. Celebrating “UCC Capsule Coffee Day” on October 10, the event aims to introduce consumers to new coffee flavors through a randomized experience.

A central feature of the event is a massive 5-meter-tall “coffee gacha” machine supervised by Takara Tomy Arts. Participants use a large handle to receive a capsule containing one of 14 types of UCC coffee capsules and a professionally selected snack pairing, such as fruit tarts or apple yokan. The coffee is brewed on-site using the DRIP POD YOUBI machine.

The event is designed to address consumer issues such as flavor monotony among heavy coffee drinkers and the fear of choosing the wrong beans among casual drinkers. By using the element of chance, UCC encourages people to discover unexpected preferences. In addition to the Tokyo event, similar activations are being held in Aichi, Osaka, and Hiroshima.
